Now let’s drag and drop a transition between the split videos.
The trimmed and split video should now look like the photo below and to the right.
To do this, select the video in the timeline, then right mouse click at about the 15-second mark, and finally select “ Split Clip”
Next, let’s split the video at approximately the 15-second mark from the beginning.
The same can be done with the beginning of the video if you’d like.
Trim 20 or 30 seconds off the end of the video by selecting the video in the timeline and then moving the mouse pointer over the end of the video clip and then drag the handle to the left.
(Note: pressing the spacebar will start and stop the video which is very handy while editing)
First, play the 90-second video by pressing the play button below the video.
Drag the video clip you just imported into the timeline at the bottom of the iMovie screen.
Finally, click on the blue “ Import Selected” or “ Import All” button on the bottom right of the dialog box.
Click on the “ Desktop” on the left navigation pane and then select “ goats.mp4”.
Next click on the “ Import Media” button in the middle of the iMovie screen.
Then click on the large “+” sign with “ Create New” underneath (labelled #2).
Make sure that the “ Projects” tab on the top of the program is selected (labelled #1).
Open iMovie by clicking on the iMovie icon (see the purple icon on the right for what it should look like).
Note: If the video starts playing you will have to right mouse click on the video and select “ Save Video As…” to save it to your computer’s desktop.
If you don’t have a video that you want to edit, let’s start by downloading this video, and saving it to your desktop.
If you have any questions or get stuck as you work through this, please ask your instructor for assistance. In this exercise, you will create and edit a movie using iMovie.
